[edit] Description
Often on searches there is an attempt to locate the subject by getting a report of the location of their cell phone. There are a number of myths about how this works which have resulted in misinterpretation of the information received and having the search focus on the wrong area.
This backgrounder is provided to explain what can be achieved when wanting to locate a cell phone. It is intended for Search Managers, Incident Management Team members, police and others involved in getting a cell phone location during a Search and Rescue operation.
