[edit] SMC Descending Ring

  • discounted: too weak

Product Number: 1410-117 Made in USA

Weight: 11g

   Strength is 14.kN.
   Ring is rolled (not welded).
   3.8cm (1.5in.) inside diameter.

An aluminum ring that facilitates getting your rope back after rappelling. It’s cheap enough to leave behind, and light (so you can carry a bundle for alpine routes).

[edit] Fixe Descending Ring

  • discounted: too small
  • Weight: 95g
  • Rated at 50kn / 12,500lbs.
  • Inner Diameter - 1 3/8"
  • Outer Diameter - 2 1/8"
  • 10mm rod stock
  • Made in Spain

This ring is rated to a stout 50kN. It is made of stainless steel and works well for setting up durable rappel stations or lowering stations. Connect to hangers via maillons, chain, and so on, making sure all units are stainless steel to prevent galvanic corrosion. The steel wears longer but is heavier, so for alpine rap stations take along aluminum ones.

"It is large enough to put two carabiners and a rope through"
