Course Name: UTV (side-by-side) Safety


Description: The Canada Safety Council has a new UTV Driver's Course available. This course is 5-1/2 to 7 hour training program operated by CSC certified instructors. The curriculum is based on field-tested techniques.

A UTV is designed to be a safe vehicle when used as intended. The key to safe operation is YOUR knowledge of the vehicle; recognizing and accepting it as a motorized vehicle; respecting its capabilities and its limitations; varying operating conditions; good judgement and courtesy. Recognizing your own capabilities and limitations is also a very important factor for the safe operation of your UTV.


Offered To:

All interested persons - search and rescue workers, government workers, and members of the public.

Registrations from search and rescue workers from any SAR Alberta member organization are given priority.

Pre/co-requisites: None.


Cost:

This course is funded by an Alberta Government grant.

Seating is limited. Students who register but do not attend or do not complete the course restrict participation and funding for other students who would have completed the course. A $50 deposit is required to hold a seat. The deposit will be refunded if the student completes the course.

The text book is supplied as part of the course.

The student is responsible for travel, and accommodation. Lunches will not be provided.

If you need to stay over in Pincher Creek, there are a number of hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast options.

Bring:

  • your own UTV (side-by-side) which is capable of passing a pre-ride inspection.
    • a skid-steer vehicle such as an Argo is NOT suited for this course
    • two students can arrange to share one UTV
  • Clothing suitable for the weather
  • DOT, ANSII or SNELL certified helmet
  • over the ankle boots
  • gloves
  • safety eye protection
  • lunch
  • water

This course is held entirely outdoors.
