Incidents/Naming

From PCSAR

Jump to: navigation, search

In 2010 Pincher SAR adopted a practice of naming new searches after something other than the subject. It was felt that if the subject's name wasn't already known to the public, using the subject's name internally would inadvertently leak that name. And if the subject's name was already known to the public, the subject may not want it to be forever tied to that event.

Our current convention is

YYYY-MM-DD Locale Activity
YYYY-MM-DD
the date on which the incident started. This may be earlier than the date when Pincher SAR got involved. The earlier date is used so that it can be in common with all agencies.
Locale
the name of the general area in which the incident occurred
Activity
the activity of the subject or the hazard
