This is the documentation for the template Template:Not in template

Template:Not in template/Doc:

The template {{Not in template|...}} includes the body (argument 1) only if it's being executed not in a template.

This is useful when e.g. you want to create a subst: template that will assign a category. E.g. see Template:Based On Template.
