Course Name: ATV Safety


Description: The All Terrain Vehicle Rider Course is a one-day program designed to train the ATV operator in the safe and efficient use of an all terrain vehicle. The course includes both classroom and hands on training, with the greatest emphasis on operational skills. The ATV Rider course is a nationally recognized program developed by the Canada Safety Council, for the benefit of both industrial and recreational ATV operators.


Syllabus:

  • Safe riding practices and strategies
  • Quick stops and swerving
  • Pre-ride inspections
  • Riding over obstacles
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Traversing hills
  • Turning basics
  • Sharp turns
  • Quick turns


Offered To:

All interested persons - search and rescue workers, government workers, and members of the public.

Registrations from search and rescue workers from any SAR Alberta member organization are given priority.

None.


Cost:

This course is funded by an Alberta Government grant.

Seating is limited. Students who register but do not attend or do not complete the course restrict participation and funding for other students who would have completed the course. A $50 deposit is required to hold a seat. The deposit will be refunded if the student completes the course.

The text book is supplied as part of the course.

The student is responsible for travel, and accommodation. Lunches will not be provided.

If you need to stay over in Pincher Creek, there are a number of hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast options.

Bring:

  • your own ATV which is capable of passing a pre-ride inspection.
  • Clothing suitable for the weather
  • DOT, ANSII or SNELL certified helmet
  • over the ankle boots
  • gloves
  • safety eye protection
  • lunch
  • water

This course is held entirely outdoors.
