Critiques/2010-03-21/Sug23:

Suggestion #23: Reports to distinguish types of tracks, footprints vs. sleds
Committee handling: preplan
Value to PCSAR mandate: low
Difficulty to implement: done
  • repeat
  • new trainees were the ones that were confusing
  • should be straigtened out right away by radio operator or search manager

Critiques/2010-03-21/Sug44:

Suggestion #44: facilitate vehicle access to search site
Committee handling: preplan
Value to PCSAR mandate: low
Difficulty to implement: hard
  • shutdown highway to get SAR teams into resort
  • difficulty of dust
  • tasking agency

only the RCMP can shut down road, we might request

  • only one incident where has came up
  • lots of other possible entries onto the road
    • could assume road closed, when unexpected traffic

Critiques/2010-03-21/Sug46:

Suggestion #46: use people that know the area, even if family
Committee handling: unassigned
Value to PCSAR mandate: none
Difficulty to implement: not rated
  • search management team reluctant to use land owner because he was also family member. Very useful to use people that know area. Could have explained roads and trails. Transport.
  • overhead team discuss how much to include family members
  • be prepared to deal with consequences of including family
  • hasn't occurred on any real searches

Critiques/2010-03-21/Sug49:

Suggestion #49: assign task through central pt
Committee handling: preplan
Value to PCSAR mandate: low
Difficulty to implement: done
  • incident specific (don't expect to ever happen again)
  • use CMR Safety Office

2013-01-15 preplan: MOU with CMR should solve further issues

Preplan/2010-04-20/Sug1:

Suggestion #1: Get awning or E-Z up for SARCAR
Committee handling: equipment
Value to PCSAR mandate: medium
Difficulty to implement: medium

See also Critiques/2010-03-21/Sug25.

$600.

E-Z Up: From Kite Festival. Takes longer to set up than awning.

Is there room to store in SARCAR? Or have in equipment trailer.

Often have other forms of shade.

Can be difficult to use in weather.

Have radios and table outside to get rid of crowd inside.

Preplan/2010-05-18/Sug1:

Suggestion #1: update old forms in SARCAR
Committee handling: preplan
Value to PCSAR mandate: medium
Difficulty to implement: medium

2010-05-18

  • to do: Ron will provide Brett list of what's needed
  • to do: Brett will print

2010-06-15

Preplan/2010-05-18/Sug2:

Suggestion #2: Improved heating system for SARCAR
Committee handling: preplan
Value to PCSAR mandate: high
Difficulty to implement: medium

Current:

Idling burns gas. Noisy.

Option 1:

RV heater. Use 20 or 30lb bottle of propane. Can be ducted (fan forced, e.g. into the back) or not.

Compartment in back driver side for propane, vented to outside.

Have to idle the bus to use existing heaters. With wind, risk of carbon monoxide.

Can extend exhaust to take it further away.

Self contained, don't have to set up other stuff (like generator).

RV heater would be much quieter

Would have to get professional installer. material guess: $1200.

Total guess: $2500.

Reluctant to sink too much money in heating system in old bus.

Option 2: Electric

Consider portable electric heaters and bigger generator.

To Do: Ron to get idea of costs.

Preplan/2010-05-18/Sug3:

Suggestion #3: update inventory list
Committee handling: equipment
Value to PCSAR mandate: medium
Difficulty to implement: medium

Already have draft copy from ~5 years ago.

Preplan/2010-05-18/Sug4:

Suggestion #4: Dave Cox offers vehicle mounted Public Address system
Committee handling: equipment
Value to PCSAR mandate: medium
Difficulty to implement: easy

2 off old ambulances. Needs to be permanently mounted.

$0 cost.

Used to address searchers. Bring search time from area to base. Searchers waiting in vehicles for further instructions.

Possible attraction.

CallOutSOPTask:

2005-05:

Bryan reported that he hasn't received any calls for any incidents recently although he is listed as available in the database. There was also a concern that cell phone numbers were not being tried during call-out. We should meet with the call-out people at the next preplan meeting to understand call-out procedures. It was proposed that any specialized knowledge (such as who doesn't want to be called, which numbers not to call) should be written down in a way that allows the members to make sure the information is up to date and allows others to use the written information to perform call out.

2010-06-15 preplan

numbers are listed in call order

resolved.

OperatingProfilesTask:

Resulting from last meeting's discussions, Brett distributed "operating profile" documents for Snowmobile and Traffic Control. The points were discussed in detail. The value of such operating profile documents was agreed. We will try to do a new one each meeting preparing for the likely activities in the season ahead.

2010-06-15

to do: Brett to bring examples of profiles
