The work that the Training Committee performs, can be broken up into the following major work areas. A committee member should be assigned to take the lead for each area.

  1. Keep a description of training events that have occurred (used to validate members are being appropriately trained) (Ali)
  2. Develop a plan of monthly meeting training subjects(task Members:Brett Wuth). Have schedule always at least 6 months out. (Claus)
  3. Find an instructor for each monthly meeting's subject. Arrange at least 3 months ahead. Provide the support the instructor needs.
  4. Find an instructor and schedule grant-funded courses. Arrange several months ahead. Provide the support the instructor needs. Register students. (Brett)
  5. Complete paperwork after grant-funded courses(task Members:Dick Burnham). (Adam?)
  6. Apply for training grants for the coming year. (Ron)
  7. Announce and promote upcoming training, via announcement at meetings, e-mails, updating website calendar, provincial e-mail lists, contacting other groups. (Mike?, Ali)
  8. Determine what provincial and regional training is available to our members by contacting other groups, SAR Alberta, reviewing mailing lists. (Ali)
  9. Determine priorities for sending and funding students to outside training
  10. Identify courses that we should fund ourselves
  11. Find an instructor and schedule internally-funded courses. Arrange several months ahead. Provide the support the instructor needs. Register students.
  12. Identify non-formal training (hikes, exercises, mocks) we should take on outside the regularly scheduled meetings.
  13. Find an organizer and schedule the non-formal training. Arrange at least 3 months ahead. Provide the support the organizer needs.
  14. Analyze and report on what major training needs are by reviewing critique suggestions, input from members, training records, and minimum training requirements.
  15. Report on behalf of the Training Committee to the Board; bring any of the Board's requests to the committee. (Yvonne)
  16. Chair training committee meetings(task Members:Brett Wuth); prepare agenda; record decisions (Claus)
  17. Oversee committee members; track task assignments; coach; encourage (Brett)
  18. Develop a budget for the expenses categories of the training committee; project where we are and will be in that budget; develop over-all ask for next year's organization budget (August)
