Course Name: Beginner Tracking


Description:

This is the first session in what may be a student's sequence in completing the new Track Awareness standard as set out by SAR Alberta found at: http://saralberta.ca/images/stories/downloads/sar_alberta_track_aware_2011.pdf To complete this standard will require a minimum of two weekend sessions plus a supervised exercise. ERI Canada monitors the current status of all present and past students. They recognize other companies' events and tracking exercises on a case by case basis.

All interested persons - search and rescue workers, government workers, and members of the public.

Registrations from search and rescue workers from any SAR Alberta member organization are given priority.

Cost:

This course is funded by an Alberta Government grant, with additional costs being underwritten by PCSAR.

Seating is limited. Students who register but do not attend or do not complete the course restrict participation and funding for other students who would have completed the course. A $50 deposit is required to hold a seat. The deposit will be refunded if the student completes the course.

The text book is supplied as part of the funding for student volunteers of SAR Alberta organizations. The cost to others is $30+GST=$31.50. Please bring cash or cheque.

The student is responsible for travel, and accommodation. Lunches will not be provided.

If you're planning on staying in Pincher Creek for the course (e.g. not commuting back to Lethbridge), there are a number of hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast options.

Bring:

  • Clothing suitable for the weather and working on the ground (no shorts). Hat.
  • Old ski pole or similar for use as tracking stick.
  • Lunch, or be prepared to go out for (1 hour break).
