[edit] Survey
Search & Rescue Uniform Survey BACKGROUND
Search & Rescue Alberta receives multiple requests each year from teams around the province asking what their "Uniform Standards" are. Until now this question has largely gone unanswered as no specified terms had been developed as of yet. At a recent board meeting the executive and regional directors agreed to explore this question and begin the process of uniform standards.
This is the first step in that process, data collection. We need to know from you, the members, what you currently use, what your future plans are and what interest you have in the development of a provincial uniform standard.
Following this process the data will be interperted and used to form a starting point for research. The intent is NOT to replace your teams uniform but to start a phased approach to a provincial identity.
Phase 1 - 2015/2016 - Data collection and Research. Phase 2 - 2016 - Uniform standard guidelines established. Phase 3 - 2017 - Provincial Uniform Developed and Available for groups to purchase (optional). Phase 4 - TBD - Provincial Identity (Uniform) mandated and protected by Government.
Should you have any questions about this project please contact the committee chair Doug Christian, NW Regional Director at nw-director@saralberta.ca Does your team currently have an established uniform? Yes No

This form should have provided space for general comment. We'll use this spot for that purpose.
Clothing worn by searchers must serve 3 functions. In order of priority they are: #1 Safety - protecting the wearer from extreme environments and hazards such as traffic, hunters. #2 Functionality - allowing searchers to work efficiently in changing conditions and specialties. #3 Recognizability - uniform details to allow identification of the searcher's role. #3 should never be prioritized over #1 or #2. Any provincial standard needs to recognize that some teams including Pincher SAR operate in extreme environments (mountainous, -40C) that make common uniforms inappropriate.
We encourage Pincher SAR members to wear their uniform (high performance jackets) during recreational activities, etc. so they are very familiar with how the clothing performs. We therefore also look for styles that make this aesthetically possible.
Any move to mandated uniforms should first address the issue of funding or risk creating additional unnecessary burdens on the SAR groups.
Although Pincher SAR strongly feels that a provincial uniform standard, if not carefully, crafted risks creating unnecessary and damaging burdens on our SAR group, we also do not have the volunteer resources to dedicate to a provincial uniform committee. Allocating those resources would take away from higher priority local needs.
Outerwear - Jacket
When weather appropriate, yellow jacket with black trim, with "Search and Rescue" in black on back, Pincher SAR logo on front left chest.
There have been 3 versions of this jacket, North End - style 88052 and two Helly Hansens. Reflective tape. Jacket choice has heavily emphasized performance in extreme weather.
