Hi All,

I hope you found your SAR Fundamentals training a rewarding experiencing. I certainly appreciated your interest and enthusiasm.

Here's some follow up information for you.

To maintain your certification, you need to participate in two real or mock searches every year. Get those events signed off in your log book by a certified search manager. You can attend mock searches as a guest with many SAR groups across the province.

You should definitely join a SAR group if you haven't already. You can find a list of such groups at the SAR Alberta websites:

SAR Alberta is an umbrella organization of all the SAR groups in Alberta. It too is volunteer runs and needs volunteers like you. You don't have to be an expert in SAR to contribute. Contact the Executive and ask where they need help.

There's a provincial mailing list that gives SAR news and information each month -- SARA Happenings. Sign up and view past issues here:

Pincher SAR welcomes new members, at what ever level you are able to help out. You don't have to live in the community to support the group. We have a number of members as far away as Lethbridge.

You can get recruitment information on our web site:

Even if you're not a member, we welcome you to nearly all of our events. You can watch our calendar:

Or sign up for our external announcements by e-mail:

There's a ton of general information on our wiki:

Including lesson plans for most of the material you covered in SAR Fundamentals:

(We try to publish as much as we can, but some material has copyright restrictions.)

In particular, you may be interested in our material on building your ready pack:

Check out the various lists in the "Aids" section.

We mentioned there was a web site where you can find the declination for your compass for your area as it changes each year.
