What is the rest step?

The rest step is a mountaineering technique used to maintain pace with heavy loads, at high altitudes or in rough, steep terrain. A rest of a few seconds is taken with each step while the weight remains on the lower foot.

What is scree?

A mass of small loose stones that form or cover a slope on a mountain.

What is talus?

A mass of rocks that form or cover a slope on a mountain. (larger than scree)

What do you shout if you knock loose rocks that tumble down a slope?
